Infrastructure operator Belarusian Cloud Technologies (beCloud) has announced that it has carried out trials of Gigabit technology on its 4G LTE network in Gomel, a city in south-eastern Belarus. In a press release, the company confirmed that to deploy Gigabit LTE at one of its base stations in the city, beCloud ‘aggregated five frequency bands in all three available frequency bands – 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz. Also, to organise the operation of a gigabit LTE connection, equipment with support for MIMO 4T4R technology and 256QAM modulation was used both in downlink and uplink connections.’ Further, it said the trials made possible peak data speeds in excess of 800Mbps using a smartphone, and also reported a five-fold increase in average data transfer speeds.
Commenting on the development, Mikhail Duka, Deputy Director General for Telecommunications, said: ‘LTE-Advanced networks continue to be actively deployed around the world and their capabilities will last for a long time. For the next few years, the technology will continue to be the main technology for data transmission. The potential of LTE-Advanced fully meets the growing market demands for the development and use of high speed services and services. And Belarus is no exception. beCloud, as an infrastructure operator that has created a single LTE-Advanced Pro network in the country, is constantly working to expand and modernise it to provide users with modern mobile services and technologies’.
