Discovery+ strikes Amazon Prime Video channels deal in US

Recently launched streamer Discovery+ is now available via Amazon’s Prime Video Channels in the US.

The deal, which comes four months since Discovery rolled its standalone SVOD service out in the US, will provide subscribers with access to around 55,000 episodes from 2,500 shows, with brands such as HGTV and Food Network represented.

The ad-free version of Discovery+ is now available on Prime Video Channels for $6.99 per month, while an ad-supported version will be available in the coming months. The channel subscription can be canceled at any time.

Gabriel Sauerhoff, SVP of digital distribution & commercial partnerships at Discovery, said the “innovative relationship” would provide “multiple, compelling ways for us to reach and delight consumers with a truly differentiated streaming experience through Discovery+.”

Soumya Sriraman, the former BritBox North America chief who moved to become head of Prime Video Channels last year, added that shows including Magnolia Table With Joanna Gaines, Guy’s Grocery Games and Bobby And Giada In Italy would be among series on offer.

The US launch in January followed an international roll-out unveiled in December, as well as a soft launch to users in the UK in early November 2020, in partnership with Sky.

Discovery has already leant on third-party distribution in the US and a deal with Verizon – which has given 55 million customers free access to the streamer at no extra cost – was struck prior to launch.
