A lot can be done to improve 4G service in Bangladesh: Huawei

Officials of Chinese technology vendor Huawei said that there was a lot of scope for the improvement of 4G service in Bangladesh.

The officials came up with the observation while addressing an online discussion immediately after Huawei annual report for the year 2020 was disclosed at an event in China.

The observation from the dominant technology vendor in the country’s telecom sector came at a time when the government has allocated additional spectrum to the mobile operators to improve service quality and has planned to launch 5G telecommunication services in the country by the year 2023.

Huawei Asia Pacific vice-president Jay Chen said that Bangladesh’s subscribers largely relied on 4G technology. For that the country has a lot to be done to improve the 4G service, he said.

Chen said that as a vendor it depended on the operators to deploy 5G service.

He also said that the country had to do a lot of work to deploy 5G service.

Huawei Asia Pacific chief digital officer and executive consultant Michael Macdonald said that the year 2021 would be prospective for the entity in the Asia Pacific region as many of the countries are yet to launch 5G service.

As per a Huawei statement, the operator’s year-on-year global sales revenue rose by 3.8 per cent to Tk 11,53,000 crore in 2020.

Besides, the entity’s net profit grew by 3.2 per cent to Tk 83,500 crore year-on-year in 2020. Huawei deputy chairman Ken Hu said, ‘Over the past year we have held strong in the face of adversity.’

‘We have kept innovating to create value for our customers, to help fight the pandemic, and to support both economic recovery and social progress around the world,’ he said.
