O2 Czech Republic plans to switch off its legacy 3G networks in the second half of this year, freeing up frequencies for 4G to further develop its infrastructure, and to build out its new 5G network. Working in partnership with infrastructure provider CETIN and Ericsson of Sweden, O2 currently offers fifth-generation services in the centre of Prague, as well as in Kolin, Bilina and Pilsen, but by end-March 2022 aims to cover the entire territory of the capital while simultaneously continuing rollout in other district cities too.
Meanwhile, the switch-off of the 3G network will be carried out in three phases, as follows:
The Capital City of Prague – as of 31 May 2021
Zlin and Olomouc Region – as of 31 August 2021
Other regions in the Czech Republic – as of 30 November 2021.
