Telecom Italia (TIM) has unveiled plans to switch off its 3G network next year as it looks to free up spectrum for 4G and eventually 5G services.
The firm’s 2100MHz licence, which is used for 3G, expires on 31 December 2021. Rival cellco Vodafone Italy has already announced that it will cease offering 3G services in 2022. Meanwhile, MondoMobileWeb reports that TIM is also looking to switch off its 2G network by the end of 2029.
