CG Telecom to launch fiber internet service in Nepal

Chaudhary Group owned by Mr. Binod Chaudhary, the richest man of Nepal is set to launch Fiber Internet Service in Nepal. Chaudhary Group had already established CG Telecom to roll out affordable mobile services in the country. As they could not get the unified license to operate the mobile networks and basic telephony service, they now foray into this internet service. Now the question remains, will CG Telecom Fiber Internet Service grasp the market which is already held by other ISPs like Nepal Telecom, Worldink, Subisu, and Vianet.

To tackle this very obstacle, CG has already moved ahead with the construction of necessary infrastructure with the objective of aggressively asserting its presence in the market. Furthermore, they already have started to build a data center in Satungal, Kathmandu. Therefore, this will make them capable of operating internet services. Likewise, the company also claims the data center’s construction is about 25 percent complete.

Similarly, in the next five months or so, CG will have all the necessary infrastructure to bring fiber internet into operation in some places inside Kathmandu Valley. It will obviously include Satungal in the first place as its data center is located there. Moreover, the company has also taken forward the procurement process of point-to-point fiber connection, OLT (Optical Line Terminal), routers as well as other necessary equipment and materials.

CG Telecom tried its best effort to obtain the unified license for a long time to operate mobile as well as basic telephony services. They had also announced to have inked a deal with Huawei to launch 4G services in the country. As they could not get the license, CG switched its focus towards CG Telecom Fiber Internet service. CG has already obtained a license from the Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) for importing bandwidth as well as operating network services.

Furthermore, the company has already set its sight on aggressively offering 5G Services after obtaining a license to operate basic telecommunication services. The current construction of the data center and optical fiber networks will also aid in its 5G vision later. For now, they are mainly into Fiber to the home (FTTH) service.

Similarly, CG Telecom is now registered as a Public Limited Company. Therefore, it will offer its share to the general public. Its stock can be acquired privately through IPO or via Stock Market sooner.

According to the General Manager Of the company, Mr. Madhusudan Poudel, the private operating company will now operate as CG Communications Limited. Nonetheless, the company recently completed all of the works to change its name from the company registrar’s office.

Similarly, they informed the regulatory body about the name change. However, CG has been waiting for the approval of the GSM mobile service for a long time. It seems there will be no positive result for the company yet. CG claims to provide data as well as call services at cheap rates if the company gets a license. To fulfill their obligation with the large investment required, they might have turned themselves to a public company limited.

If CG Telecom brings its Fiber Internet Service to Nepal at cheap rates then it will surely give some competition to other ISPs. This will force other ISPs to lower down their price as well. The scenario will be similar to the scenario that Jio created in India. However, it will directly benefit all Nepalese with internet service at cheap rates as well as by creating more job opportunities.
