Telecom Armenia (formerly VEON, trading as Beeline) has announced plans to build a state of the art fibre-optic Next Generation Network (NGN) in the capital, Yerevan. Work on the NGN is already underway with residents in the district of Davidashen expected to be the first to access up-to-10Gbps services ‘in several months’.
Commenting on the development, Telecom Armenia’s new CEO Hayk Yesayan said: ‘Our company has been providing communications services for over 100 years. Today, we are taking a new leap into the next century by creating a new fibre-optic network that will be one of the best in the world. In existing networks, the main backbone is shared among multiple users, while in our new network, each subscriber will receive a fibre-optic channel’ using fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) technology.
