Cibicom, Nokia to roll out new 450MHz LTE infrastructure

Danish ISP Cibicom – which owns and operates the Danish national radio/TV broadcast network alongside a nationwide LoRaWAN IoT network, data centres and critical communications systems – has inked an agreement with Nokia to implement a new 450MHz 4G LTE network. The deal will comprise upgrading the existing Cibicom radio networks and migrating them to a new framework that will enable full 4G data coverage across Denmark, as well as mass-volume IoT connectivity. Building on the company’s 450MHz licence acquisition in June 2020, the project will allow Cibicom to improve its offering to utility companies, while also ensuring that the service provider can offer new opportunities and application support for 5G in the 3.5GHz band. Currently, Cibicom covers 98% of Denmark and the deal will maintain that level of coverage, as well as provide improved connectivity for private households in neighbouring Greenland.

TeleGeography notes that Cibicom acquired Danish wireless broadband/IoT network operator Net 1 Denmark for an undisclosed sum in June 2020; Net 1 was awarded a renewal of its national 450MHz cellular licence for a further 16 years a day before the acquisition announcement.
