ICCI, Daraz promoting eCommerce in Pakistan

The Government of Pakistan is taking the leaping in the digital world by introducing a Digital Pakistan Policy to facilitate the growth of e-commerce.

Addressing an e-commerce summit, a member of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom (MoITT) – Syed Junaid Imam – said that e-commerce has tremendous potential in Pakistan with a large target audience of 95 million.

This recent eCommerce summit was organized by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) in collaboration with Daraz Pakistan.

Senator Mian Muhammad Ateeq Sheikh, Osman Nasir Managing Director (MD) Pakistan Software Export Board, and Ehsan Saya MD DARAZ, also attended the summit.

The summit aimed to help move the economy towards digitisation in line with the PM’s vision of Digital Pakistan.

The government would be facilitating the e-commerce industry by providing an environment where Payment Service Providers (PSPs) and Payment Service Operators (PSOs) could work in an effective e-commerce manner.

The MoITT ensures the participants that it would prepare recommendations for tax reforms for e-commerce.

Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) while addressing the summit added that Amazon’s sales revenue in 2020 was over $386 billion, whereas it was $72 billing for Alibaba Group and $10 billion for eBay. This high sales revenue shows that people are moving towards digital trading.

According to the source, Pakistan, too, witnessed growth in digital trading. However, it was only 0.5% of its total sales, showing touch on the untapped market.

ICCI intends to hold more events including an industrial expo, shopping festival, property expo, and other initiatives to promote the interests of the business community.

According to Daraz, there are over 70,000 successful sellers nationwide with 20 million products in over 100 categories, 2,600 Daraz Dukaans, over 65 Daraz hubs, and 5 state-of-the-art warehouses. With its massive network, Daraz is operating in over 100 cities with a distribution network in over 600 cities.
