SaskTel expands rural 4G LTE with launch of 15 new cell towers

SaskTel has announced it recently expanded 4G LTE to 15 new rural locations thanks to macro cell towers. The Saskatchewan crown corporation says the following “previously underserved rural parts of the province” now have 4G LTE near them:

Burnham

Clayridge

Crescent Lake

Duncairn

Filion Lake

Frenchman Butte

Great Deer

Keppel

Kessock

Main Centre

Meacham – East

Murphy Creek

Parkerview

Sokal

Worcester

“Our government understands how important communication services have become in the modern world, especially in rural and remote areas,” said Don Morgan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel, in a statement.

SaskTel highlighted a recent CRTC report, touting how Saskatchewan “already has the best wireless coverage in Western Canada, with over 99% of the population and 98% of the major roadways and highways being covered with LTE wireless service,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel President and CEO.

“Through the Wireless Saskatchewan initiative, and thanks to the efforts of SaskTel, we’re raising the level of connectivity in rural and remote parts of the province so that our residents are better equipped to compete and succeed in the modern world,” added Morgan.

These new cell towers are part of the Wireless Saskatchewan initiative, currently in its final phase. The project will expand SaskTel’s wireless footprint to over 1,000 cell towers, with 70% of them located in rural locations; the completion is expected by this summer.
