Taiwan 5G user penetration to reach 23% in 2021

The penetration rate of Taiwan's 5G service subscriber market is expected to reach over 23% in 2021 thanks to continued network deployments by telecom players and the availability of new applications and services, according to industry observers.

Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), the top telecom operator in Taiwan, aims to solicit up to two million 5G subscribers by the end of 2021, utilizing multiple approaches and tools, including 5G private networks, game and video streaming services, and other AR/VR applications.

Taiwan Mobile expects its overall revenues to grow 12-15% in 2021, bolstered by its expanding 5G commercial services and Momo e-commerce platform. The company has also set a capex budget of NT$11.8 billion (US$423.05 million) for 2021.

Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) aims to achieve a 5G user penetration rate of 25-30% in 2021, focusing on B2B and B2C segments, according to company sources. It expects its B2B business to expand to account for 16% of its total revenues in 2021.

FET has completed the installments of 4,600 5G base stations, said the sources.

Taiwan Star Telecom is soliciting 5G subscribers by promoting integrated services with cable TV operator Homeplus Digital (Home+).

For the commercial segment, the company is teaming up with HwaCom Systems to build 5G smart industry parks to promote private network applications.
