Belgian full-service telecoms operator Proximus has announced it has begun deploying its FTTP network in Bruges. Work is already underway in certain districts and more than 8,000 homes and businesses in the city centre are expected to be connected by the end of the year, before work is scaled up in the coming years with the ultimate goal of providing coverage for more than 63,000 households and companies by 2028. The rollout will take place in phases, in close consultation with the city council.
Proximus’s FTTP deployment is already underway in 17 Belgian cities, passing more than 460,000 homes and businesses. The company aims to connect as many as 4.2 million households and companies to fibre – equivalent to 70% national fibre coverage – by the end of 2028.
