Orange opens up Slovak network

Slovak Telekom will start to use part of Orange’s fibre-optic network to provide services from April this year.

In a statement, the incumbent says that it introduced a new type of wholesale network access and Orange became its first customer on December 1, 2020. Orange then offered Slovak Telekom the opportunity to gain access to its network under conditions that Slovak Telekom later accepted. Slovak Telekom will offer fixed network services such as broadband internet, digital television Magio TV or Smart package and Magenta 1.

Slovak Telekom says it continues to build its own optical network intensively. Last year, it added over 100,000 households and exceeded the milestone of 750,000 households covered by its own network. Access to part of Orange’s network will enable the provision of fibre-optic services in places where Telekom’s network does not yet exist.

At the same time, the incumbent will be able to focus on further covering cities and municipalities in new regions, where customers do not yet have faster internet available.
