Orange taps NuRAN for rural connectivity in DRC

Orange DRC has signed a 10-year deal with Canadian vendor NuRAN that will help it to expand its rural coverage across the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The agreement focused on NuRAN’s Network as a Service (NaaS) offering, with the Canadian firm constructing and running 2000 new towers across the next 40 months. The towers will allow Orange to provide 2.75G services.

TeleGeography notes that the deployment will in particular seek to connect rural communities with populations of over 5000, with the goal of connecting up to 10 million people who previously had little or no access to internet connectivity.
