Singtel has announced the expansion of its 5G network coverage by deploying the new technology indoors at VivoCity, the largest mall in the city-state. The carrier’s in-deployment network operates at 3.5GHz and using advanced small cell radio dot technology, it claims to be able to offer customers ultra-fast speeds of up to 1.2Gbps and ‘a consistent and seamless 5G experience whether they are indoors or outdoors at VivoCity’. As it looks to roll out 5G in more high-traffic areas, Singtel says it aims to extend its in-building 5G coverage to other malls such as Ngee Ann City and Bugis Junction between now and June 2021.
The company claims it is currently operating Singapore’s ‘fastest 5G network’, delivering speeds of over 1Gbps via both 3.5GHz and 2100MHz frequencies. To boost its deployment, Singtel recently switched on 28GHz mmWave 5G in a number of locations and claims to have enhanced its 5G coverage across the island to include key residential hubs such as Clementi, Punggol and others, since the launch of its 5G network in September 2020.
