British pure fiber provider CityFibre has announced that work has begun on its network rollout in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
In a press release regarding the development, the operator said that as part of a GBP32 million (USD44 million) private investment, Barnsley will ultimately benefit from a town-wide full fibre network, with construction already underway in the Redbrook area. Contractor nmcm is reportedly delivering the construction programme on CityFibre’s behalf, using modern build techniques to deploy the network quickly. Meanwhile, it was noted that nmcm is working closely with CityFibre, Barnsley Council and local communities to manage disruption and ensure a fast and successful rollout, with residents being kept informed by mailings ahead of works in their streets.
Commenting, Natalie Ward, CityFibre’s City Manager for Barnsley, said: ‘CityFibre is leading the charge in South Yorkshire when it comes to delivering gigabit-capable broadband and Barnsley is next in line to reap the benefits of this transformative technology.’
