ViacomCBS expands Hulu deal to include Comedy Central & Paramount Network

ViacomCBS has struck an expanded deal with US-based streamer Hulu that will see channels such as Comedy Central, Paramount Network and Nickelodeon become available via the Disney-owned service.

The multi-year deal means Showtime, CBS’s broadcast stations, CBS Sports Network, Pop TV, Smithsonian Channel and The CW will remain available via subscription streaming service Hulu+ Live TV.

The agreement also covers 14 additional ViacomCBS networks, including BET, MTV, VH1, CMT, Nick Jr., TV Land, BET Her, MTV2, NickToons, TeenNick and MTV Classic, as well as Yellowstone network Paramount, Comedy Central and Nick.

Financial details of the pact have not been revealed, but it comes amidst an ongoing restructuring process at ViacomCBS that has sought to put streaming at the centre of its operations.

The combined company, which was re-formed when Viacom merged with CBS in 2019, has overhauled its global operations and named Pluto TV’s CEO Tom Ryan as president & CEO of ViacomCBS Streaming in October, with a remit that includes overseeing the launch of streamer Paramount+.

“We are excited to have reached an expanded agreement with Hulu that underscores the value of our powerful portfolio of brands to next-generation TV platforms and viewers,” said Ray Hopkins, president of US Networks Distribution at ViacomCBS.

“Hulu continues to be a great partner, and this agreement ensures that Hulu + Live TV subscribers are now able to enjoy the full breadth of our leading content across news, sports and entertainment for the first time.”
