Mobile network operator (MNO) eir has announced that its 5G infrastructure is now available to more than 53% of the population of Ireland, with the cellco most recently having switched on its network in Croke Park, in Dublin.
In a press release regarding its network development, the MNO noted that it now offers the next generation of mobile broadband technology in 204 towns and cities, across all 26 counties, via a total of 748 sites. eir notes that its 5G network is complemented with 4G coverage of 99% of the population. Commenting, CEO Carolan Lennon said: ‘eir is delighted to be the first operator to surpass 53% of the population of the country with 5G and to be the first to bring 5G to life in Croke Park’.
