Malaysian operator Digi Telecommunications has upgraded its 4G LTE network coverage in Perak, Penang, Kedah and Perlis. Digi’s 4G LTE and LTE-A network currently covers 92 percent and 73 percent of the population, respectively, in the northern states of Malaysia.
Digi also reports it has completed about 85 percent of its targeted deployment and upgrades for the northern region planned for the year, and is working towards completing the remaining sites by year-end.
Digi overlays its sites with several layers of available spectrum. The operator has recently re-farmed 2,100 Mhz spectrum to enhance its 4G network performance. It also deployed LTE coupled with the use of 4T4R MIMO equipment to upgrade quality of service for deep indoor and fringe coverage areas. Newly deployed and newly upgraded sites are also using 5G-ready baseband units and a 5G-ready platform, allowing 5G services to be enabled via an upgrade in the future.
