Discovery+ goes live in the UK

Discovery+ has officially launched in the UK market, replacing dplay as its streaming brand.

It will aggregate Discovery UK’s pay-TV and free-to-air brands including Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, ID, Discovery Science, Discovery Turbo and Discovery History as well as its free-to-air brands Quest, Really, Quest Red, HGTV, Food Network and DMAX.

“We are unveiling discovery+ at a time when streaming captivating programmes is a source of joy for many in locked down areas across the country, who may be socially distanced from friends and family or perhaps just looking for something new,” said Clare Laycock, SVP, head of lifestyle and entertainment brands. “At Discovery, we’re extremely proud of our extensive portfolio of exclusive and original shows, and are inviting consumers to indulge their passions with discovery+, whether these lie in true crime and blue light shows or property and design.”

Discovery+ will initially be available on Sky, where Sky Q customers will receive a free subscription for the next 12 months.

Outside of the Sky environment, consumers will be able to subscribe to discovery+ directly via web or app purchase for a monthly fee of £4.99 or an initial discounted annual fee of £29.99 (for a limited period), standard price £49.99 in the UK. A 14-day free trial is available to viewers in both the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Discovery+ will be rolled out on additional devices and platforms in 2020 and 2021.

International launches are also underway including in 13 Eastern European territories.
