PLDT’s FTTH network reached 46% of cities/municipalities at end-September 2020

PLDT Inc. says that it is consolidating its position in the residential broadband market, and continuing to increase network capacity to meet future growth.

In a market update over the weekend, the Philippines’ largest telco by subscribers said its ‘Home Fibr’ broadband service reached 46% of all cities and municipalities across the country by the end of September 2020, adding that by the end of this year it will have increased its fibre-optic and copper ports to a total of 4.15 million.

PLDT president and chief executive officer Manuel V Pangilinan released a statement which read: ‘We believe that in about a year or two, the ability of delivering fixed wireless services to the homes will increase significantly. PLDT is focusing on fibre-to-the-home [FTTH] which is considered future proof. We think FTTH will still remain the best platform to deliver services like entertainment, video, sports and the like.’ Echoing Pangilinan, the telco’s chief revenue officer and president on mobile arm Smart Communications, Alfredo S Panlilio, pointed out that the group has also begun the process of migrating customers from copper to fibre. The company declined to provide details of exactly how many people are subscribed to its Home Fibr service, however.
