Montenegro earmarks Q4 2021 for 5G auction

Montenegro’s regulator EKIP (Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services) is planning to auction 5G-capable spectrum in Q4 2021.

Local outlet SeeNews reports that the regulator’s draft annual plan, which was submitted to parliament at the end of September, revealed the proposed auction date as well as the frequencies that will be made available.

Reportedly, all available spectrum in the 694MHz-790MHz and 3400MHz-3800MHz bands will be put up for bidding, while an additional 1GHz in the 24.25GHz-27.5GHz band (most likely 26.5GHz-27.5GHz) will also be made available.

TeleGeography reports that the body expects to approve winning bids by end-2021 or early 2022. Additionally, the regulator is setting out siting criteria for 5G base stations in a bid to quell consumer fears over electromagnetic radiation.
