Orange boosting fiber networks

Orange is expanding its fibre networks in two of its markets – Poland and Cote d’Ivoire.

Up until now, Orange Cote d’Ivoire has only operated a fibre network in Abidjan, the country’s largest city and former capital. The operator is now expanding this to other regions, such as the port city of San Pedro.

According to CommsUpdate, Orange claims to have deployed 100km of fibre in San Pedro and is looking to double this by the end of 2021.

Didier Kla, Director of Business and Broadband at Orange CI, said: “Since 2017, we have invested more than XOF300 billion [USD537 million] in the renewal and development of new networks…both mobile with 4G and fixed with the fibre. After San Pedro, we will continue our efforts to extend fibre coverage to the entire national territory.”

Meanwhile in Poland, Orange’s local unit is expanding its fibre coverage with Adtran’s second generation G.fast fibre extension solution to provide “seamless fibre extension options that can be deployed without requiring any costly and time-consuming IT adaptation of the existing GPON fibre network.”

Orange Poland’s Director of Fixed Access Networks Michal Wal said: “Orange’s ambition is to reach several thousand additional customers per year with faster broadband services, which we believe will improve their quality of life and allow more people to benefit from the Gigabit Society.”
