Proximus extends fiber network to Ostend

Belgian full-service telecoms operator Proximus has announced plans to extend its fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) network to the city of Ostend, with the aim of reaching more than 40,000 homes and businesses in the city by the end of 2022. Work has already started under a phased rollout that will cover most of the city centre and areas around the Casino, Diaz Arena, Wellington racetrack and Raversijde in 2021 and the Mariakerke neighbourhood in 2022. The operator notes several new housing projects and more than 250 companies can already connect to fibre.

Proximus announced a significant expansion and acceleration of its ‘Fibre for Belgium’ investment plan earlier this year, with the aim of connecting as many as 4.2 million homes and businesses – equivalent to coverage of 70% – by the end of 2028. The rollout is currently underway in 14 cities.
