Listed Globe Telecom Inc. is aggressively pushing to implement its network infrastructure projects by partnering with several tower companies (towercos) to build 900 sites across the country.
According to Globe Chief Finance Officer and Risk Officer Rizza Maniego-Eala, the Ayala-led telecommunications giant’s deals with Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc., ISOC-edotco Towers Inc., Transcend Towers Infrastructure (Philippines) Inc., Communication and Renewable Energy Infrastructure Philippines Inc., and Frontier Towers Associates are now on the “active acquisition and build phases.”
“The partnerships with towercos will greatly complement the company’s target in expanding its capacity and coverage throughout the country,” Maniego-Eala said in a statement on Wednesday.
“These projects will be a catalyst for change in the industry as telcos are empowered to deploy beyond their individual capabilities in a cost-efficient manner,” she added.
For its partnership with AIC, Globe looks to bolster its network with about 200 sites across Cebu, Davao and Subic.
Three hundred micro sites are also set for deployment in northern and southern Luzon, and 400 more are eyed to be set up across the country within the year.
This comes after the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) reiterated the need to eliminate red tape for the faster rollout of network infrastructure as the country transitions to the new normal.
Information Secretary Gregorio Honasan 2nd had said government agencies were joining efforts to boost the country’s information and communications technology infrastructure for the common tower permitting process.
The DICT, Anti-Red Tape Authority and other concerned agencies earlier released a joint memorandum circular seeking to streamline the process of applications for the deployment of these towers to address connectivity issues in the Philippines.
