TVN Discovery Polska and Cyfrowy Polsat have asked the European Commission (EC) for permission to launch a joint OTT platform.
As previously reported by Broadband TV News, the two Polish companies signed a joint venture agreement last October to create such a platform.
Operated by a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) on a 50:50 basis jointly controlled by Cyfrowy Polsat and Discovery, it would be finally and operationally independent, with its initial capital capped at PLN30 million (€7 million) for each party.
According to Wirtualne Media, TVN Discovery Polska only submitted all the necessary documentation to the EC last week.
The EC’s approval is required as the platform will also be available outside Poland. Both TVN Discovery Polska and Cyfrowy Polsat plan to continue operating their existing on demand services Player.pl and Ipla.tv after the new platform makes its debut.
