Telecommunications company Telia Eesti AS said it has started building a solar park to power up its data centre in Laagri, a suburb near the capital city Tallinn.
The construction job was entrusted to local solar projects developer Pro-Solar, who will finalise the work on the plant by the end of the summer.
Telia Eesti did not say how much power the solar park is set to generate.
The plant will be installed on a plot next to the campus building. Once in operation, it will not cover all of the data centre’s consumption needs, but it will help reduce electricity costs, according to the press release.
During summer periods, data centres tend to use more electricity on cooling and power coming from the solar park will make up for it, the telecom explained.
Telia Eesti, a subsidiary of Swedish telecom group Telia Company AB (STO:TELIA), operates six data centres in Estonia. It plans to install solar solutions at several base stations this year and build a solar plant in a small town of Uuemoisa in 2021.
