WarnerMedia and Canal+ strengthen African partnership

WarnerMedia and Canal+ Group have launched TNT and Cartoon Network within Les Bouquet’s Canal+ pay-TV offer in Rwanda.

This follows Canal+ Group’s move to reinforce its English-speaking channel proposition within its pay-TV offer and footprint in the country.

Canal+ Group already has strong presence in pay-TV in Africa with its French-speaking channels and aims to reinforce its subscriber base in a country where half of the population counts as English speaking. While WarnerMedia is already distributing the English news channel, CNN International, through the platform in Rwanda, this deal will further diversify its channel offering.

Commenting on the development, Guillaume Coffin, VP head of commercial and business development Turner France, Africa & Israel, said: “WarnerMedia has been present in Africa for more than 20 years, operating six channels across the continent in 56 English, French and Portuguese speaking countries.

“Launching TNT and Cartoon Network is an exciting expansion of our partnership with Canal+ Group in Africa. I am convinced that the tremendous success of these two channels in Africa, as well as their dedicated line-up of content and productions tailored for African viewers, will be welcomed by Canal+ subscribers in Rwanda. This is, once again, confirmation that our localisation strategy is meeting the growing demand from viewers”.

Alexandre Gruner, SVP Channels Acquisitions and Partnerships for Canal+ International, added: “We are delighted to bring TNT and Cartoon Network to our Les Bouquets Canal+ subscribers in Rwanda. These two channels are a must-see in terms of Hollywood blockbusters and unexpected and imaginative kids programming, and will seamlessly satisfy our viewers’ expectations”.
