TIM-Vodafone network sharing set for EU approval

The proposed tower sharing venture between Vodafone Italy and Telecom Italia (TIM) is set to win conditional approval from the EU, according to a report from Reuters. The EUR10 billion (USD11.2 billion) merger would see Vodafone combine its Italian tower network with Inwit, the 60%-owned tower subsidiary of TIM. The operators plan to each take a 37.5% stake in the enlarged entity.

The telcos have reportedly offered to give rival operators access to their combined infrastructure for up to nine years in order to appease competition concerns. The deal includes a network sharing agreement and a partnership to roll out 5G infrastructure jointly across Italy.
