According to a recent press release from A1 Belarus the operator has begun work on launching voice and data mobile communications at all new stations on the Minsk metro, as well as along the lines connecting them.
Work is underway on the 3.5km launch area, which includes Kovalskaya Sloboda, Vokzalnaya, Frantishka Bogushevich Square and Yubileynaya Square stations. The works will allow A1 users to make voice calls, including HD calls, as well as access the internet via their device both on the platforms and while the train is moving.
These activities are taking place as part of preparations for the commissioning of the new third line of the Minsk Metro public transport system.
The Minsk metro is the country’s only metro. It is described as the most convenient and fastest way of travel in the Belarusian capital. Every year about 800,000 passengers travel by metro.
The construction of the metro in Minsk began in 1977. On 30 June 1984 the regular train service launched along the first line from the station Institut Kultury to the station Moskovskaya. There are two lines at present.
The third line will run from the residential area of Zeleny Lug in the north to Kurassovshina in the south, crossing the existing lines at Pl. Lenina and Frunzenskaya. Construction started in March 2014. The first section of this line is scheduled to be completed in mid-2020.
High-speed internet and mobile communications were launched in the Minsk metro less than a year ago – in April 2019.
