Comcast has acquired advertising-supported streaming service XUMO.
Based in Irvine, California. XUMO offers 190 different genre-grouped micro channels, placing it in the same ballpark as Pluto TV, acquired last year by Viacom.
The business was established in 2011 and is a subsidiary of Meredith Corporation and Panasonic.
It has distribution across a number of major smart television brands including Panasonic itself and Vizio.
XUMO will continue to operate as an independent business inside of Comcast Cable.
The financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
