El Salvadoran mobile operator Telemovil, which provides services under the Tigo brand, has announced the launch of LTE-A services, reports El Economista.
The new network is currently available in parts of San Salvador, Santa Ana, San Miguel, La Union and La Libertad, and will be gradually expanded to other main municipalities during this year.
The launch forms part of a USD130 million investment programme aimed at expanding network coverage for voice and data services in 2020. According to Tigo’s CEO Edgard Grande, overall voice and data services are expected to reach 92% of the population, including 4G coverage of 90% and LTE-A coverage of 60%.
