ViacomCBS to expand streaming service

Fresh from its merger ViacomCBS is planning on an expansion of its CBS All Access into an expanded service that would bring in assets from Pluto TV, Nickelodeon, BET, MTV, Comedy Central and Paramount Pictures.

It would be the latest drive for a streaming service from one of the US majors. NBC recently unveiled plans for its own service Peacock while Disney, which is in the process of globally rolling out Disney+, is the owner of the ABC Network.

According to CNBC, which first reported the story, there would be both an advertising supported version and a premium edition that would also include Showtime.

Neither a name or a price have been set for the new venture. There is no word as to whether the service would then be made available outside the United States.

It’s expected that a statement will be made when ViacomCBS publishes its 4th quarter results on February 20th.

The current CBS All Access product is priced at $5.99 with ads and $9.99 without.

Viacom’s previous strategy had been to created a number of branded products, such as the Nickelodeon Play mobile app.
