Advertising-financed video-on-demand service Popcorntimes has launched in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, providing movies from the 1910s to the 2010s free of charge.
Almost 1,000 films and documentaries in German language are offered at www.popcorntimes.tv, including Superman from the 1940s, John Wayne films from the 1950s and Charlie Chaplin movies from the 1920s.
Thousands of other films will be added in the coming months, as well as live events and TV shows in cooperation TV broadcasters, according to Popcorntimes.
Apps for smartphones and smart TVs are also planned. Furthermore, Popcorntimes wants to expand into other European countries.
