PBS launches on YouTube TV

US public broadcaster PBS has launched more than 100 of its member stations on the cord-cutting YouTube TV.

Subscribers to the service will be able to access dedicated live channels for PBS and PBS Kids along with on demand programming. YouTube TV offers live TV from over 70 networks at US$49.99 per month.

PBS chief digital and marketing officer Ira Rubenstein said: “Every year, more and more households are seeking alternative ways to view their favorite PBS programs. PBS is committed to making trusted content available to all households across as many platforms as possible. We are pleased that YouTube TV recognises public television’s unique structure and worked with us to provide our viewers with more ways to watch the programs that they love through their local PBS station.”

Lori Conkling, global head of partnerships at YouTube TV said: “We are excited to partner with PBS on this unique partnership to further our commitment to providing a best-in-class experience for our users. PBS and PBS Kids are highly requested channels by our users, and we’re thrilled to be able to add these to the YouTube TV lineup starting today.”

The deal was first announced in July, with PBS then referring to it as the “first digital partnership of its kind” for the organisation, and that it “represents an important step as PBS expands its digital footprint”.
