Orange Money obtains the license to issue electronic money from the Central Bank

Orange Jordan announced that Petra Company for mobile payment services, Orange Money, which is owned by Orange Jordan, has obtained a license to start issuing electronic wallets through the national switch (JoMoPay), after the company has met all the conditions required by the Central Bank in accordance with the legislation in force.

Under this license, Orange Money will provide a new and advanced mobile payment mechanism that is easy to use, highly reliable and secure, to the Jordanian market enabling its customers to carry out payments, transfers, bill payments, and other electronical services.

The announcement came along with the presence of the Deputy Governor of The Central Bank of Jordan, Dr. Adel Sharkas, Chairman of Board of Directors at Orange Jordan, Dr. Shabib Ammari, and Chairman of Orange Money, Raslan Deiranieh.

Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan, Dr. Adel Al-Sharkas pointed out that as per this license, Orange Money will be one of the financial companies under the supervision and control of the Central Bank, engaged in providing e-payment services through JoMoPay, and that the Central Bank is looking forward to the active role that Orange Money will play in supporting and spreading the use of electronic wallets all over the Kingdom, and remote areas in particular, which will contribute in achieving financial inclusion and ensuring compatibility with other payment services operating in the local market, by providing innovative solutions.

Chairman of Orange Money, Mr. Raslan Deiranieh said that the electrocnic wallet service will soon be available for customers, drawing attention that it falls within Orange global strategy for the Middle East and Africa, which is based on several pillars. Most importantly, the automation of payment services, focusing on the subscriber’s information security, stressing that Orange Jordan, as a local company operating in a global spirit, and is constantly seeking ways to provide the local market with the latest information technology services that go beyond communications for other support services that also meet the needs of its subscribers.

Deiranieh discussed Orange Jordan's contribution and effective role in the process of the Kingdom’s economic development, saying that through the ectronic wallet service, the company will contribute to the national strategy which falls in line with the Central Bank’s vision of financial inclusion strategy, which needs joint efforts and cooperation by all parties to succeed in developing the electronic payment system in the local market. Deiranieh pointed out that Orange Money services are supported by electronic applications that meet the needs of the local market and fall in line with the international specifications and standards of financial services.

Regarding the features of Orange Money, he explained that the new service is a modern solution that enables users to complete many financial transactions through their smartphones, such as issuing and managing electronic funds, making electronic payments, collecting electronic payments, transfers, and other financial services that falls in line with Orange Jordan's approach to offer solutions that meet different user’s requirements in order to achieve digital transformation in its integrated concept.

Executive Director of the Department of Supervision and Control of the National Payments System, Mr. Ghassan Abu Shehab stressed on the important role the Central Bank plays in supervising companies that provide mobile payment services to ensure the efficiency, safety, security of the services provided, its alignment with the best practices, and to ensure its compliance with technical, security, and operational requirements in protection against any risk of penetration or fraud. In addition to its adherence to anti-money laundering and terrorist financing standards, emphasizing the transparency and protection of the financial consumer.

General Manager of Orange Money, Eng. Hiba Al-Sharif clarified the added value the company is aiming to achieve for users in particular and the local electronic payment sector in general, especially that it is in the process of introducing several products to meet the development in this vital sector and the needs of diverse segments at the highest international standards. Al-Sharif pointed out that these services reflect Orange Jordan’s vision in connecting users with everything that matters to them, facilitate the way they perform their tasks, and enable them to stay up to date with the modern technologies.
