Azercell, Azerbaijan’s largest mobile network operator (MNO) by subscribers, has achieved speeds of over 1.1Gbps during a 5G speed test conducted in cooperation with equipment supplier Ericsson in Baku city centre.
The cellco has announced it will deploy a trial 5G network covering Fountain Square, site of its customer service centre, in early December, when subscribers will be offered the opportunity to purchase the first 5G-compatible handsets. During the pilot stage, Azercell will provide 5G services free of charge and continue comprehensive testing of technological solutions until a nationwide commercial launch.
