Libya’s Trans Sahara and Morocco’s Data Protect sign agreement to establish first data security operations centre in Libya

Libya’s Trans Sahara IT and Communications announced last week that it has signed a strategic partnership with Morocco’s Data Protect to set up the first Security Operation Centre in Libya.

Speaking on the agreement, Zakaria Farhat, Trans Sahara’s General Manager told Libya Herald that ‘‘in a world where everything is becoming digital and all services are conducted online from e-government to digital banking, the need for data protection has never been more urgent.

In Libya we see a tectonic shift from both public and private sector companies towards adopting the latest technologies that utilise the power of the internet to ease the lives of their customers, however, this isn’t without risk, where sensitive data is stored on systems that are connected to the internet, they are a target of hackers trying to exploit the sensitive information for devious gain.

This centre is setup to protect in real time against cyber threats and to prevent hackers and malicious individuals from accessing the very systems that provide us with vital services like banks, payment processors , government, telco and retail.

This collaboration is the result of our strategic decision to find partnerships within the Maghreb and to localize the regional talent’’, he concluded.

Trans Sahara is part of the HB Group of Companies. Established in 2003, it describes itself as a Libya-based technology systems consultancy and integrator, engaged in procuring, managing, deploying, and supporting enterprise infrastructure and applications

DATAPROTECT is a Casablanca-based Moroccan company specialized in information security. It reports that it has a hundred clients in North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East.

It will be recalled that Trans Sahara had signed an agreement with Tatweer Research in October to establish a TIER 3 data centre in Libya.
