T-Mobile Czech to cover 100,000 homes with FTTH by year-end

T-Mobile Czech Republic has announced it expects to have covered 100,000 households with fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) technology by the end of the year, providing peak throughput of up to 10Gbps. In a press release the Deutsche Telekom unit said that in the long run it targets making the infrastructure available to one million homes across Czechia by the end of 2025, working in cooperation with local fibre-optics partners.

‘The optical network is the future of T-Mobile. We assume that customers’ interest in even faster data on the fixed network will continue to grow. This year, we have reached 100,000 households covered by optics and we want to continue this trend next year. Everything will depend on the pace of building approval and our ability to obtain construction permits. There are indeed many sites under negotiation. And, of course, also working with local ISPs,’ said managing director Juraj Bona in the 9 November press release. Here Bona was referencing for example, the recent acquisition of ISP Planet A which became a T-Mobile subsidiary on 31 October 2019. Planet A is a telecoms operator providing services in the capital Prague under the ‘aim’ brand and its acquisition strengthens T-Mobile’s position in this important market.
