CDC invests in Nepal's WorldLink

UK-based development finance institution CDC Group has invested NPR 1.35 billion (approximately USD 12 million) in WorldLink, a private internet service provider in Nepal. WorldLink will use the funds to power the expansion of its operations across Nepal, to reach remote areas of the country and connect hundreds of thousands of households and small enterprises to the internet.

WorldLink has laid over 8000km of fibre and reaching some of the country’s most remote places such as Chhatrakot Rural Municipality and Ruru Rural Municipality. It is also participating in a government subsidy scheme to extend internet services to Karnali, the most mountainous and underdeveloped province in Nepal.

WorldLink currently has around 3000 employees. WorldLink also plans to use CDC’s investment to hire over 1,000 new employees. CDC will also help WorldLink develop a skills and training programme for its staff.
