Mobile operators in Luxembourg will have to wait until 2020 to know how the government plans to allocate 5G spectrum in the 3.5 GHz and 700 MHz bands. In an interview with Luxemburger Wort, government advisor Pierre Goerens said that the spectrum award would not be completed by the end of the year, as originally planned.
The decision reflects higher-than-expected demand from many potential candidates, both for 3.5 GHz and 700 MHz frequencies. Goerens said that the government is still evaluating the best allocation procedure, with an auction being the most likely outcome.
