GTT fiber rollout reaches 70,000 premises

Guyanese fixed line incumbent Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) has extended the reach of its fibre network to 70,000 premises in the capital, Georgetown, and neighbouring Region 3 (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), Stabroek News cites CEO Justin Need as saying. The official added that GTT is planning to extend coverage to Berbice, Parika and Linden, though no timeline for the rollout was given. Mr Nedd highlighted the company’s decision to install three fibre cables for ‘triple redundancy’ and ensure that customers remain connected in the case of disruption. The official went on to note that the system had already been tested successfully after two of its cables were disrupted, without impact to customers.

In a related development, Kaieteur News reports that GTT has begun offering to waive the GYD15,000 (USD70.2) installation fee for its ‘Blaze’-branded fibre services. Further, a senior official was cited by the news portal as saying that the company had signed up a total of 20,000 subscribers to its Blaze services.
