Fawry, the leading electronic payments company in Egypt, has entered a partnership with the Egyptian Ministry of Education, allowing over 20 million students enrolled in all the 50,000 public schools of the country to pay their fee electronically through Fawry’s network, the company told MENAbytes.
The service that was launched two weeks ago, according to a statement by Fawry, has been used by over a million citizens already.
The move is aimed to support Egypt’s efforts to provide electronic payment methods to citizens for different government services, the statement noted.
Dr. Mohamed Omar, Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Education and Technical Education for Teachers’ Affairs in a statement said that the partnership aims to facilitate the students and their parents as it allows offers different payment methods and allows them to pay any time of the day, any day of the week without having to wait in any queue.
He also explained that Fawry was selected to offer this service due to diversity of the payment methods it offers which now allows parents to pay through over 105,000 outlets, bank wallets, and MyFawry mobile app.
Mohamed Okasha, Fawry’s Managing Director, added that the service is part of Fawry’s plans to offer electronic payment solutions for all government services and support their plans for improving financial inclusion in the country.
Fawry that went public earlier this year had seen it’s stock surge 60 percent to reach EGP 10.27 (it is now trading at EGP 9.34), taking its market cap to $440 million earlier this month.
