Dutch SVOD platform Cinetree comes to Samsung smart TVs

Dutch SVOD platform Cinetree is now also available via a new smart TV app for Samsung.

Despite the number of new (international) players in the streaming market, the popularity of the Dutch niche player continues to rise. Cinetree saw its turnover grow by more than 50 percent in 2018 compared to the previous year. The increase in turnover was accompanied by a doubling of the number of Cinetree accounts. In the first half of 2019, this trend continued with more than 50 percent growth in the number of users compared to the same period a year earlier.

“We are a niche player with a focus on selection. The fact that people are able to find us more often in an increasingly crowded market is the best proof that people are increasingly looking for quality over quantity,” says Hanna Verboom, founder of Cinetree.

“What we still lacked were smart TV apps and that will change from now on. We hope to grow even more by making our selection of films available to a wider audience.”

Later in 2019, Cinetree expects to launch smart TV apps for other platforms as well. In addition, substantial investments are being made to strengthen the offering. For example, the platform is currently working with leading names from the Dutch film world to expand the platform to offer young filmmakers a larger stage. The success of its own productions such as the short film Alice and the documentary series Plastic Sailors and Karakters will also be continued with new Cinetree Originals in 2019 and 2020.

Cinetree is now available as a smart TV app for Samsung Tizen. Cinetree can also be seen on PC and laptop via the browser or the apps for iOS, AppleTV and Android. Streaming can be done via Apple Airplay or Chromecast.
