Indonesian mobile operator Smartfren adopts eSIMs

IndoTelko reports that Indonesian cellco PT Smart Telecom (Smartfren) has officially adopted eSIM telecommunications technology, which will allow its users to access its 4G LTE network without a physical SIMcard. The mobile network operator (MNO), which had more than 15.2 million subscribers on its books at end-March 2019, says that eSIMs will add greater flexibility for users to tailor services to their needs, including setting their own data, voice and SMS preferences.

Commenting on the initiative, Smartfren Assitant Head of Device and Innovation, Amith Sethi, said: ‘Smartfren is one of the first 4G operators in Indonesia to apply eSIM. By providing alternative telecommunications solutions it is hoped that Smartfren users can stay better connected in carrying out their activities. eSIM technology is one of the breakthroughs for Smartfren. The migration process for old customers is enough easy and consumers will no longer experience problems related to SIM cards.’
