A1 Telekom Austria announced that it has upgraded fixed broadband speeds for around 420,000 homes across the country since the start of this year. Of that total, 170,000 homes are now connected to the firm’s fibre-optic network, which has been extended by over 3,300km in 70 municipalities in the last six months.
In other news, the government’s ‘Breitband Austria 2020’ programme has so far benefitted around 838,000 people in more than 1,640 municipalities. The scheme has allocated around EUR470 million (USD529 million) in subsidies to support broadband rollout by operators in rural and underserved areas.
