4ka and SWAN have launched their 5G network test operation in Slovakia at a press conference in Banská Bystrica, where the first official video call over 5G in Slovakia took place.
The press conference was attended by Li Ming, vice president of ZTE, a major telecommunications equipment provider for 4K. The fourth operator , in collaboration with ZTE, has built its 4G network, and collaboration continues with the 5G network.
Roman Vavrík, CEO of SWAN, said the launch of the 5G network is due to the interconnection of SWAN's fixed and mobile services. At the same time, he confirmed that SWAN plans to prepare a converged offer of its services .
The 5G network operates at 1.8 GHz and 3.7 GHz . It is a 5G NSA type, which means that 5G and 4G networks coexist alongside each other. The 3.7 GHz frequency is used to transmit user data such as video for video call.
Control data is sent over the 1.8 GHz frequency between the user's device and the operator. Both frequencies are necessary to make the 5G NSA-type network work.
In addition to the video call, she also presented data. The maximum speed was 1 Gbps . During the press conference, functional and commercially available devices were used, namely the ZTE Axon 10 Pro smartphone and ZTE's 5G home router.
The 5G 4K network is also compatible with other 5G devices and if you have such a device, you can try it in Banska Bystrica. You will also need a 4ky SIM card. The operator will provide you with a special test SIM cardtoday if you are interested .
So far, the 5G network is not planning to launch yet, claiming that it cannot be done by one operator. In the future, however, he wants to expand his 5G network to several other cities. She didn't specify the details.
Roman Vavrík expects that we can expect 5 to 6 years of 5 % network coverage in Slovakia.
