Nepal Telecom to improve service in Terai region

Nepal Telecom (NT) has installed and operated 260 BTS towers of GSM mobile service in 17 districts of Terai region in the current fiscal year.

Issuing a press statement on Tuesday, the NT stated that the establishment of new BTS power was as per its plan to expand GSM mobile service and enhance its service quality in the Terai region.

With the establishment of more BTS towers in the Terai-Madhes region, residences of rural areas have been benefited from NT’s service at a reasonable rate, it stated.

The company established 260 towers in Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa, Chitwan, Saptari, Parsha, Sarlahi, Dhanusha, Bara, Rautahat, Siraha, Kanchanpur, Bardiya, Dang, Kailali and Mahottari districts.

Before the establishment of new BTS towers, a few low populated areas were out of access of NT’s service in the Terai-Madhes area. The company is currently providing 2G and 3G services in these areas.

The company said that it was focusing on expanding the access of its service irrespective of remoteness of the locations.

Under ‘Package A’ of the 10 million line project, the NT is expediting works of installing BTS towers in former Eastern, Central (except Kathmandu valley), Mid-western and Far-Western Development Regions for distributing with the capacity of 5.2 million lines.

The company has already completed the ‘Package B’ programme with capacity of 4.8 million lines of GSM mobile for Western Development Region and Kathmandu Valley.

The company informed that works of expanding its 4G/LTE service in each seven provinces are moving ahead in a rapid speed.
