Cyber security in Africa highlighted in Algiers

Prevention against new digitalization-related threats in institutions as well as state-owned and private companies has been under the spotlight at the seventh African Cyber Security summit, in Algiers.

"African companies and administrations are developing by largely using the digital technology as a competitive factor, which exposes their computer system to cyber-attacks," the chairman of the two-day meeting, Mehdi Zakaria, told a panel of IT decision makers working in Algerian and African institutions and companies and cybersecurity solution providers.

"It is essential, in such a situation, to guard against cyber threats, by learning to detect and identify such an attack," he said, stressing the need to understand the various techniques of attacks and the appropriate countermeasures to combat them.

Moncef Zid, a senior executive at the company Arbor Networks France and North Africa, said security teams need cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions that detect and stop all types of cyber threats.
