China Internet users over 828 million at end of 2018

The number of Internet users in China increased to 828.51 million at year-end 2018, according to the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC).

The number of users rose 7.32% on year, and reached a penetration rate of 59.6%, CNNIC indicated. Of the users, 816.98 million or 98.61% used handsets for mobile access. In 2018, the average time of using Internet services a week per surfer was 27.6 hours.

At the end of 2018, there were 368.33 million FTTH/B subscribers, accounting for 90.4% of subscribers of fixed-line broadband access to the Internet.

In December 2018, there were 4.49 million mobile apps available in China, with 1.81 million (40.3%) at Apple Store. Of the apps, 30.7% were for gaming, 12.1% for daily-life services and 9.4% for e-commerce.

During the fourth quarter of 2018, the average download speed for fixed-line broadband access to the Internet stood at 28.06Mbps, increasing 47.6% on year, and that for 4G mobile access to the Internet at 22.05Mbps, up 21.3%.

There were 338.925 million IPv4 addresses and 41,079 blocks/32 of IPv6 addresses as well as 5.23 million websites registered in China at the end of 2018. At the same time, China had total bandwidth of 8,946.570Gbps for international Internet connections, with China Telecom being the largest ISP with bandwidth of 4,537.680Gbps, followed by China United Network Communications (2,234.738Gbps), China Mobile (1,997.000Gbps), CERNET (115.712Gbps) and CSTNet (61.440Gbps).
